I just found a story written July 26, 1994. It doesn't mention or spoil any episodes though. It's about a teenager who tried to use IRC to begin his plan of world domination. It's such a nerdy fanfic! It's cracking me up.

So far I've found the earliest fanfic to be between seasons one and two. But I'm not done yet! In fact, I don't think I'll post this yet in case I find and earlier one...

Ooh, here is an earlier one! June 7, 1994. This one is strictly an X-File, also set when Mulder and Scully are off the X-Files. That makes sense, since it was written between S1 and S2. Mulder is working in accounting and Scully is doing autopsies, but they manage to snag themselves and X-file just the same.

Interestingly enough, both of these earliest X-Files I've found were written by males. I think nowadays mostly females write fanfic. Well, back to the search

Ok, I can't look at that white gossamer screen anymore. But there are tons of fanfic written in the summer between season one and season two. A lot of dates, and a lot that don't say "Can't wait until Sept 1994! Can't wait for Little Green Men!" or something to that effect.

Wait! Here is one dated 5/1/94 and says "Here it is! The actual script of the season finale. And boy, is it
a cliffhanger!! This script was taken from an FBI building in Washington DC at great personal risk. They must have intercepted it from somewhere. Now read on...."

This one isn't based on any previous episodes though, it's basically M&S wandering around Chicago investigating a murder, Scully eats like a pig the whole time, and the murderer ends up being Al Bundy. Weird. Also written by a male.

Ok, I don't think I can look anymore. But this was fun!
