Carefully watching the fire lizard egg cupped in her hands, Tamiri slowly enters the dining hall. Her gaze flickers up for an instant, seeking the path to the hearth, where she knew she could keep the egg warm. Once at the fire, she kneels by the heat, spying a bowl of warm sand, yet empty of an egg. With great care, she tucks the egg inside the sand, the memory of the shell still imprinted on her fingers. The shell was hard, and the egg would hatch soon--soon enough that she would stay and wait here. She stands and backs up a bit, sitting on a bench and keeping an eye on the bowl containing her egg. She was sure it was either blue of green, judging from the size of the egg. She begins absently rolling names around in her mind, moving from one thought to another, trying to decide.
