The thing we have to remember is that while Spike has not been portrayed as Evil, really, in a long time. He has been portrayed as amoral.

I could easily see him drinking human blood for practical reasons. i.e. It makes him stronger. And where it comes from is no particular concern to him. That's amoral. He's not doing it because he revels in doing Evil -- he just doesn't affix a moral judgment to it as being "wrong."

Buffy, of course, would question the morality of it.

Now, maybe I'm way off on my example, but the basic dilemma is there. A morality chasm is what separates Buffy and Spike.

She has no evidence to support that if Spike got the chip out, he wouldn't start feeding on strangers again. He hasn't shown her that he has any regard for human life beyond her, Dawn and perhaps her friends. He even reminded her in AYW that she knew what he was.

So, I could easily see Spike going to Africa for a chipectomy to prove to Buffy that he could change and could exercise self-control.

It would be cool if he were put to some kind of test while there that showed him he could be even more than a vampire who didn't bite because he loved someone -- if he really wanted to be.

Alane
