Willy... I wish I was a fast typer such as you... I hunt and peck slow... also think slow. So this will take time for me to answer and I hope I don't get timed out.

However, I have always felt the Fisher Gold Strike a "sleeper." I bought one of the early ones from Stapp
Mining in San Bernardino.

The 30 kHz frequency is a good choice. Good sensitivity to smaller stuff and a good depth.

Since you have used the PI-type Infinium, you may be better used to the Gold Strikes double low/high tone. The Gold Strike chatters in the trashy areas, but where there are less signals it is a good VLF-type choice.

Without revealing any confidentuality; I have been in contact over the years with several who have used the Gold Strike successfully. Roy in Imlay was one... Recovered 4-0unces over one winter...

Another, "ANON," used his with the smaller 6.5 coil. Here in s. California. He pulled out lots of "pumkin seed" looking gold where others using other VLF and PI type detectors couldn't. ANON told me that he learned to listen to the magpie-like chatter and could find the "pumkins" where the others using different detectors missed.

Now that Fisher is under a new managememt, maybe they will considerer some sort of a simple operator selectable "kill switch" to eliminate the sometimes unbearable chatter. I once suggeted this to "info" at Fisher just after I got my Gold Strke... But I seemed to strike a nerve.

I have my Gold Strike... in a box safe on a shelf. If someone could modify the single low-frequency (500 kHz) tone that sounds off on all targets (good and bad). I would send it in...

Bottom Line Willy... IMO... Depending upon the users particular frequency loss, the Gold Strike can be better or worse.

Maybe any others reading our posts will jump in with good thoughts... This is how we learn.

Also, there are stock coils out there. Just a matter of finding one.

Now cold and raining here. We need the rain, so I'm nor complaining.
