Subject: Nuggets in Red Dirt

Hi Guys,
I remember reading in several places that patches of red soil in Arizona are a favorite for nugget hunters because they can be an indication of a nugget patch. Why is this so? If the nuggets are placer in nature, why would the forces of the elements settle nuggets in one type of soil more often than others? Lastly, I see areas with red soil here in Nevada, does this phenomena occur everywhere?
