First off, hi Jim, yes, Hawkeye and I are watching the thunderstorm too. Dry? Us? The typical patch of Mojave Desert soil is saturated to a depth of 4 feet. Anyway, Trapper, first off the stock 950 is a very fine coil. Between rain squalls I took a client out for an hour, he just wanted to watch me use his new MXT, I bagged 6 nice 'uns with the stock coil. Personally, however, I prefer the DD's better. My "main" coil, used about 80% of the time, is the 10x6. For really rocky areas, the 6x4 is also a joy. I have great "expectations" for the 1400, it DOES go deeper than the 950, and covers a lot more ground per sweep, while still retaining good sensitivity to the small nuggets. It is a bit "trying" to use in brushy areas, but then so are all bigger coils. I loaned my personal 1400 to a pal, he hasn't returned it, guess I'll have to charge him for it. But, ANY of the DD's are a good choice. Hope this helps; HH jim
