Ralph, Unfortunately you have hit the nail on the head. I say "unfortunately" as the nail is bent and seems that it will not be straightened out by current "bean counters." who put the "quick buck for today" ahead of the "slow dimes over the long run."

It is the more reason for us to provide more support to the little "local" guys/gals who are out there swinging their product and have experience and knowledge on how to set the controls and are willing to provide continuous aftermarket support--- they are the backbone of our hobby and need our continual support.

My late bro, Tom, was a White's dealer in Sierra Vista Az years ago--- back in the "dark ages" and dealt directly with the mother company; no middleman.

Then came the middleman; it was Hank West. So Tom bought the required five machines and other requirements and continued selling machines. Then Mr. West died. The "new" distributor required all of his dealers to buy five more from him. Some did, some didn't. My brother was stubborn and didn't.

Later it was determined that the "new" distributor was cutting corners and pulling shennanigans and lost his area; this is when Jimmy Sierra expanded his base and took over Nv. and Az. Since I knew Jimmy; I tried to get Tom to renew his dealership as Tom was well known as a "hot" gold detectorist at this time in southern AZ.

He was too stubborm and was then happily selling Gold Mountain machines direct from the manufacturer. Even discounting about 20% he still made about 17%. There may still be a lot of GM Bosses in Sierra Vista. It was a VLF/TR at about 15.8 kHz and while it had limited depth it found small gold. 7.5 and 10-inch coils. Very similar to the early Garrett Groundhog; the coils were interchangreable

Actually, with a Gold Mountain "Boss" he was doing good. He had several handfull's of pyramid shaped nuggets as found just above the National Border. He was going to take me--- this is now 20 years ago--- but died of a massive heart attack; the location died with him. Toms first machine was a TR; he bought it direct from Olive White.

Times change. "Arizona Al" will be missed. He was once a strong Tesoro dealer and instrumental in the development of the Lobo Super Track. He tested it in western Nevada and through him the "alkali" mode was modified!
