Jim, the MXT can give a good hit on a dime buried to a mesured 9 inches, and although I haven't tried testing a nickel's depth, Sue S. (you know the lady) told me 14 inches on a nickel is no problem whatsoever for the MXT. And that is in AZ soil. Yes, for the hotter Rand schists, the 14 kHz MXT will likely operate more smoothly than the 48 kHz GMT. Nice thing about either the MXT or GMT is that it takes only 2 to 5 passes of the coil over a hot (or cold) rock to tune 'em out. And, the ground number reading helps out there, too. For those unfamiliar with this area, the nuggets are not really concentrated (unless on caliche) so as Jim S. says, finding nuggets is pretty much a "do a lot of walking" issue. Also, knocking down old drywash piles is still a productive enterprise. One thing to mention is that at Stringer, and to a greater extent, at Atolia, that scheelite ore gives a good signal. Since it looks like melted white wax, many persones think that they have found "highgrade" quartz ore. HH Jim
