Subject: Gold Strike; my thoughts

Hello Everyone,

I have been reading posts on different forums regarding the Fisher Gold Strike. From what I can gather the layout and terminology may be causing some confusion--- also the possibility of earler pre- production prototypes not "wired right."

I have not used a Gold Strike; however a few days ago I acquired the 11-minute Fisher video on its basic operation and frankly, I like what I see. I'm going to buy one from the local Fisher dealer.

My picture is not hanging on the wall any manufacturer's corporate office. I do not sell machines. And I'm not involved in any Gold Strike field test; however I look foreward to the official magazine field test; with the production model, which should be forthcoming in both LT and W&E. (Does anyone have any information on when?)

In the past I have had the pleasure of using three prototypes from three differen't manufacturers. Two after testing were returned to the manufacturer and I suspect were improved. However, I will say that I have bought all of the machines, including production models of the prototypes.

Over the past 20+ years I have detected--- and found--- eluvial gold in Arizona, Nevada, California and Alaska. My first successful find was made with a 1978 vintage Garrett "Coinhunter" non-ADS early 15.8 kHz Groundhog with a black pushbutton retune control. However, with the standard 7.5 search coil I "did well." (Back at this time some of the drywash header and tailings piles were especially "productive" and I "followed the drywashers."

Some of the 1970-80 era drywash workings yielded an astonishing amount of detectable gold. Also, the unworked overburden piles! Later, I found some of the mine dumps in both eastern and central Nevada were worth detecting and hunted a mine dump (using Garrett VLF's in the TR calibrated mode) near Lane City, Nevada, which were earlier worked--- in the late 1920's by my grandfather.

Since then, with a total of 23 different machines, the newest being a 2200d, I have found gold. However, I do not wave my finds in the air yelling "looky what I found." If I did I would be embarrassed as many; such as Terry Bone would make my "meagers" microscopic in comparison.

However, I am in the process of using some of my eluvial placer-- which (some)I have found under adverse conditions in western Nevada--- to buy the Gold Strike. I will run the Gold Strike through my assortment of "tests," and become familiar with it. Then God Willing, if my upcoming cataract operation works out I will take it to western Nevada and hopefully find eluvial gold with it in my favorite stomping grounds--- on open ground controlled by Roy Evans in Imlay, Nevada.

I will be 73 my next birthday and about to become a great-grandfather. My back trail is long and winding; my front trail may be shorter. I'm now getting more into sitting in my rocking chair, but try to answer my e-mails. One day I got 38 which really kept me busy.

If any of you have a mind to do so, feel free to send me a (to my email address question) on some facet of prospecting and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
