Subject: Good news

It's easy to post the bad news. When good news comes, it's difficult to trust it, especially lately. The lion was supposed to begin his last course of chemo Wednesday morning, but as he'd lost over 10 pounds and his blood pressure was very low, the doctor decided to put it off for another week. Laf has been experiencing some blurred vision, as well, so the doctor ordered an MRI of the brain. I told him I wanted copies to frame and hang:) We were checking out at the office when the lion experienced a severe drop out. His blood pressure was 56/0. They put him on fluids immediately, hoping to bring it up, but it didn't come up fast enough to suit them, so the ambulance was called and he spent the night in the hospital under observation. They did the MRI while he was there. He was discharged Thursday morning and we are back home.

The doctor has taken him off his heart meds, which he believes caused the lion's blood pressure problems; i.e. no energy, feelings of just being exhausted and weak. The CAT scan he had done 2 weeks ago looks really good. The doctor saw enlarged lymph nodes, but they are not abnormally enlarged and he could see no signs of the tumor. The MRI showed a small, and what he thinks is benign, lump near his left ear where an explosion in Nam caused him to lose most of his hearing, but nothing else abnormal (of course he doesn't know the lion...lol)! The doctor cautioned us, reminding us that there is no cure for small cell carcinoma and that it will probably come back to shoot him with both barrels, but we are optimistic right now. We return to see the doctor next Wednesday, when he will probably schedule the last round of chemo. It's possible that the 4th course of chemo could put him back in the hospital again, but this time we really have some hope that he will recover from the effects of that poison, so he can enjoy feeling like his "old" self again - at least for awhile. You may even see him back here today or in the next few days. Keep those fingers crossed, the magick and prayers coming, because I think they are really working! Love you guys!
