Subject: clarification on elections

Just by way of explanation I have spoken to some people on the election fiasco and here is what they had to say. I will post more info for those who are interested when I get more info:

According to Jonathan Cooper, elections committee Chair, there were a lot of incidents and there were violations on both tickets which warranted the cancellation of the elections although as of May 13, the committee had not met to officially cancel the A.S. elections.
"There was an incident involving Daisy Castillo (ICC Chair) and a girl from Noah's [Saeedy] ticket and the polls were closed for a long time," said Cooper.
This information was verified by Anita Lopez, A.S. Students Secretary. "Basically what happened is the Leage of Women's voters said the elections were invalidated because the polls had to close for a few hours on tuesday night following the incident with Daisy and Martin Mercado's sister and many students didn't get a chance to vote," said Lopez.
Also damaging was the fact Armida Mendoza, A.S. Vice President quit the elections committee and started campaigning for the ABC ticket. "We just could not have that," said Cooper.
"It started getting out of hand," he said. According to A.S., elections will be held again in the Fall which will necessitate a shorter amount for training for those elected to hold office which occurs traditionally over the summer.
Cooper said he will be around this summer and intends to preside over the fall semester elections as well to make sure they are run clearly.
