Reaching the far end of the beach just where the sand stops as you climb the rocks to the boat dock someone has cleared a wide track through the sand dunes. Length about 100 yards. I followed a couple of families leaving the beach. Path leads to a flattened area in the sand dunes. Space for approx 30 cars when I was there and clearly demand for more as cars were parked along the entry/ exit lane. Access to this car park is via a rough track initially then climbing steeply to a concrete road which runs along the top of the ridge behind Lageri ( you cannot see it from the beach). This becomes a metalled road shortly before joining the Naoussa -Santa Maria road by the SM car park and just yards from the bus stop which saved my legs walking back. Quite a pleasant walk actually with views to Naoussa one way and beyond Santa Maria village to Naxos. You cannot see Lageri beach as it lies beneath the ridge. Our farmer has done a grand job with land conservation/ ploughing and there is also an olive grove so if nothing else I recommend the walk! The car park was not there last year and so far it is just that but is popular ( it is not signposted from the road at SM) so word of mouth has led to it's popularity.
Next year who knows- a beach bar / café ? I suspect this will also lead to the demise of the boat- a family in a hire car would find it easier to make the journey by car. On the visit this Tuesday I saw some of the textiles heading along the beach- I suspect from this car park end.
I am not here to provide an opinion- merely to state facts and everyone is entitled to enjoy Lageri beach naked or otherwise I doubt however that it will rate among the top 10 in the Cyclades if these changes continues. Sadly tourism is all that the Greeks have left . Obviously would welcome other peoples experiences from later in the summer. Regards
