For definition purposes, if a parent participates in a fundraiser, it's our opinion that this falls under "parent involvement". Not all parents can volunteer during the school day or spend time in the classroom, but they can still be involved in their school by participating in fundraisers and other school functions. There were plenty of parents who brought their children to the Spring Carnival, spending money that goes directly to the PTA.

That's why we're asking questions about the incoming money and how it is spent. It's particularly bothersome to see events "Teacher Appreciation Week, sponsored by the PTA" or "PTA helping ______" when it's every parent who contributes to fundraising (whether it be cookie dough or percentage of purchases at Vons through Escrip) who pays for these programs. Does the PTA take their own personal money to pay for these things? No. It's your money, you should have a say in how it is spent and budgeted. Yes, the PTA puts the man hours in and does work hard for the school. But they are not exclusively purchasing meals for the teachers, yet it's promoted that way.
