Subject: Jellyfish in Redang - August

Hi all,

I'm planning a trip to Laguna Redang this coming Aug. Would jellyfishes be a concern during this period?
Is it a peak season in Aug?
Tks.

Wow, predicting when jellyfishes will be present in large numbers is probably even harder than predicting the weather! In Redang, I'm not even sure if they can be considered 'seasonal' since they don't necessarily appear every year. In all my 9 trips to Redang, I've only encountered 'jellyfish minefields' twice, and even then, it's not island-wide and they last only 1-2 days.

I specifically say 'minefields' because there will always be the odd one or two jellyfish here and there (the ocean's a large place) that one might chance upon while snorkeling or diving, but rarely do you find them in such numbers that you can't even go out snorkeling. Still, if you're concerned, then cover up or wear a wetsuit for protection - they can only sting exposed areas.
