I tried Ping Anchorage, no monetary links... they're pretty helpful, the agent even did me a favor prior to my arrival.

*** Claimer: I declaring no business links with them. ***

I see myself using their services again simply because they gave me what I requested (with in reasonable means), after many e-mails, STD, IDD phone calls, faxes - all worked out okay in the end. Very memorable vacation, no rude and impolite folks from Ping Anchorage to Redang and back.

Since you did not book the package with them but with a local agent, see what Ping Anchorage can do for you and how they're gonna charge you for their services. If and should they get the return tickets for you, either they courier it to you, cost about 20 riggit or more, or you make your way to their office upon arrival (office opens at 8 o'clock I think) and get tickets from them. You need to arrange this with them. Generally the staff are nice, some are really service oriented, they listen and very patience to my detail questions even when I ask over and over again just to be sure that I understand that they understand what I want. I sticking with them until I find something better, but they hard to beat... I tried 3 local agents, totally different experience. My take is on Ping Anchorage.

BTW, I do NOT like local agents, for my Bali trip there was a bill error and they made it so difficult for the refund - I had to do all the co-ordination myself and explain over and over again as I am being passed from one agent to another. Till today, I can't say I found a good travel agent locally. Hint: they are located at Hong Lim Complex, level 3, big office, many agents, lack the human touch. I hope they're not the one you booked with.

Anyway, they're pulling a fast one on ya, if it was their own ticket, I tell ya, they change it in a jiffy... why? Because your trip is still 5 days away, plenty of time for them if they really wanted to. They just don't bother with the extra work of calling all the bookies and having each one update the ticket log to reflect ticket returned for new one. I mean, the process can be improved and with a small fee to deter folks from changing unneccessarily and to compensate them for the time and efforts - uhmm... not in your case of course ;) :))

Send me e-mail, I would like to know who and add this local agent to my list of no-go agents. That's one proactive way to promote service in Singapore. It only encourages them to continue at the same 'service' level.

Okay, one last alternative that I would do... try again with someone else at the agency. Sweet talk to them, tell 'em this is your first time (only if it is) booking with them and you would really appreciate them helping you out this time and you would not tell anyone that they managed to change the tickets, first time to Redang and want to make it really happy one from start to end, dah dah dah, etcetra, etcetra.

Basically, mon-jar the fellow until you get results or some results? If no-go then go to Ping Anchorage. If so, be prepared to TT payment or provide credit card details (I would not e-mail, I call instead and fax - more secure). OR, get return tickets from one of the local coaches directly - don't go to Linus Travel - WE got shafted big time - going to K.L., the contracted coach, in very bad condition, took us half way to Genting Highlands before I kicked up a fuss, I mean nobody wanted to do anything, everybody was waiting for someobdy to do something... pretty lame... anyways that is another story... oops back to Redang ... getting back right?!

FYI - was told by one of the resort operators that one could charter a taxi for 300 riggit for 4 pax from KT back to Singapore. I think it is going to be a little more, because Malaysian school holidays is in effect until September 15th.

Good luck and don't bum out if you have to shell out another 40, 50 bucks for your ride back - most important - don't wanna get stuck in KT. Got myself a digicam for 536 (nett) before National Day and today at Sim Lim is cost only 480 (nett). Different time and different opportunities. I just learn.

Hey hey, one more hint, since you going to Berjaya, there bound to be tonnes of kids and folks... I would not be surprise if you report back that it is crowded... so if you're into the sparsely occupied beaches, I know I was, I automatically woke up (no alarm) before break of dawn, for three days, digicam, disposable camera in tow, snap sunrise at 6:45 a.m. and rush back to dump the cams and marched straight to Tanjong Tengah, in the water at 7ish, water is not cold, fishes are out having breakfast, awesome, it was fun, love it.

Princess,

Yes, thanks for sharing that with us (me). At least now, I know what level of service they can provide and thus know what to expect should I book from them. This info will certainly help me make a better decision when looking for Redang packages.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Weather is weird... -- tangotee, Mon, Sep 09 2002, 18:28:27

Hey Princess,

Don't worry, the weather is weird... heard from a Nature lover of Palau Ubin that South East Asia is in for unexpected Al Nino weather. Hence the recently long rainfall during the weekend. Someone mentioned in the forum that the weather in Redang does not follow what was reported in the news for Terrenganu...

Now that I've been there, I can say this myself. I was checking weather reports a week before going and everyday it was thunderstorms or isolated thundershowers, got me worried. It was mentioned also in the forum that it rains but only briefly... that too I can atest to. Day 2 saw rain clouds (really dark and black) but it did not rain and when it did the clouds have moved into inner island up the hills. So if it does, it only be a while, lets us hope and pray.

BTW, Berjaya being in Teluk Dalam Kercil is quite shelterd in someways compared to Pasir Panjang, at least the water is, as it is a bay. So less chance of choppy water.

I packed a small umbrella for the trip in August. Only if you want to, bring one. I took one that has a metal rod, try the plastic or bamboo one. Day 3, after dinner at Redang Beach, it boom once and then light drizzle, started to rain heavy (that's what we thought), walked quickly back to Coral, but the time in the room, the rains have stopped. You see, we saw lighting from afar and winds have picked up a little - nice hearing the coconut leave rustling in the breeze on a dark night. But the rains were over yonder and not from where we were. Pansir Panjang had only 10 minutes of rain the most, not even heavy. Relax, I bet you have good stuff to report when you get back.

Enjoy, your trip and buckle up, see the fantastic light show at the oil refineries after Kuantan Pass if you awake at the time.

I envy you!
Selamat Dedang, Redang!

Tango
