>>Is mandatory overtime legal in the state of Florida?
I work for a publication company in Clearwater, FL, just started 2 weeks ago and they never told me upon hire there would be OT. My first week, (I work 3rd shift), they came in and told me they needed people to come in on their days off, which I did. I was almost involved in a car crash on my way home last night, which prompts me to ask you if this is even legal. I worked from 9pm Friday night to 1pm Saturday afternoon AND am expected to come in tonight, Saturday at 9pm for the same shift. I voiced my opinion but was told that is how the company runs due to deadlines on printing and a shortage of employees on this shift.
Now I see why they leave their job. I am looking for something else in the days this time but I am a single mom and can't afford to walk out. This is my only income.
Let me know please before I kill myself on the road tonight or tomorrow. Maybe I can work for you from home. I am a freelance writer. Thanks, R.
