As ISI isolated Latin American countries, and by stifling competition it failed to promote high-quality manufactured goods, neoliberalists promote reinstatement of free trade in hopes that foreign competition will provide incentive for industries to upgrade. Comparative advantage -- This is the natural advantage one country or region has over another due to natural resources, other favorable conditions, or even aspects of society. Examples include Venezuela's oil reserves and copper in Chile. Liberalism (in the European sense) -- As it pertains to the economy, it compares to US Conservativism. Liberalism includes support for free trade, no government subsidies for emerging industry, and basically liberalism implies capitalism.
