I remember growing up in a single end in Shettleston during the war. How can one forget the rafters in the closes or the baffle walls at the front of the close or the "Waash Hoose" where the "wimmin did their washin" or playing"fitba roon the back" or "plunkin" school and hiding in the air raid shelters I think I was very fortuneate because "oor hoose" had a lot of love in it and I am grateful that I had parents who did not drink. The thing that I am amazed at is how safe it was. :Wimmin hingin oot the windaes" telling strangers to "go away (I'm being polite) and we could go all over the place (the shoogies or the museum in Toll X park and were never in danger of being molested. I am glad that I was brought up in Shettleston because it made me appreciate what i have today.
