The other thing:
Marcus is doing pretty standard sweep arpeggios at high
speeds.

He's not flatpicking or using legato technique, just
sweep arps.

Sweep arps get really ANNOYING at high speeds.

Anyone can play a sweep arp, he's just doing it really
fast. For my own purposes, I find that sweeps aren't
really good for what I want to do with music.

Shawn on the other hand uses flatpicking, legato technique
(ala Holdsworth), his 1-note-per string playing as well as
the occasional foray into country-ish bent diads and triads
all kinds of interesting techniques.

And Shawn's flatpicking is probably the cleanest and
fastest that I've ever seen, bar none. I can be fast
at times but Shawn is RIDICULOUS.
