loss of the ground circuit will cause a durasperk module to smoke immediately when the key is turned on. the ground is inside the distributor which is a good place to keep it clean but also a good place to hide a broken wire or loose screw. an "e" core coil should not be used with a duraspark module for several reasons, first is that an "e" core coil draws a lot of current which would eventually fry the module however the coil will likely fail first since the dwell parameter of a duraspark module is much higher than that of a tfi module, also a duraspark module will hold the coil turned on if key is turned on but engine not running, an eec iv system turns the tfi module off to prevent this condition.
