Words o' adults are overheard by young white filly. Initial thought: No! It cannot be true! Her twin...a blackblood? But then that would make her...Young one moves stealthily away. She must find out for herself.

In th' shelter of a large overhanging ledge, in th' shadows, sharp rock is found. Knee dashed 'pon it, and any seeing who saw her mother perform th' same action would recognize it. Single droplet of raven-hued blood spills. Femora is shocked. If she is a blackblood, then the silverblood steed with whom her mother traveled cannot be her father. Who, then, is he? And...what of her true father?

Mahogany-hued femora glimpses a flash 'f white 'mong the foilage. Oh no, she thinks, just what I need! She must have overheard; how could she not? Following, she sees the filly dash her knee 'pon the rock, sees the result, and sees her daughter's shock. Gathering her courage, she steps forwards. Her words: "I guess you would've found out sooner or later."

White filly jumps, startled. "Mama?" she whispers. Despite rushed mental maturity, she still uses th' old name.

She steps forthwards. "I should probably tell you who your father is, but I won't. The truth is, I don't know."

Staring, Mulan asks, "How can you not know?"

"Oh, I know what he looked like, and there can be none other in all these lands put together like him. The strangest creature. He had wings, like a bat's, and while this isn't unheard of...well, how many equines have claws, instead of proper hooves? And fangs..." She shuddered. "And his eyes were in the absolute WRONG position. Rather than on the side of his head, they were more forwards, like a predator's, rather than prey."

"Oooh, vampire horsey!" Mulan's healthy sense of humor shows through.

Both crack up laughing.

*Raya soon forces herself to stop laughing, and says, "I never even knew his name, and I'm glad that I didn't. I'd...rather not remember. I wasn't exactly willing."

Mulan gets the meaning, deep inside.

"So...there you have it. Your father is a big unknown, except as a bit of a Dracula--" undoubtedly this is where Mulan's humor comes from. "--and you're what I thought I was: a blackblood. I'd tell you all about it, but I'm running out of breath. At any rate, whether you're the second part of what I thought I was, you'll have to decide for yourself. And no," she adds, seeing the question in Mulan's face, "I will not tell you any more. You'll figure it out, if it's who you are." With a nuzzle *Raya adds, "Think on that for a while." She walks away, knowing that Mulan can find her way back on her own.

The white winged filly lingers a moment, looking down on the black blood 'pon her knee. So shiny and untouched, it is, that she can see her reflection. At once she begins to sing, softly:

"Who is that girl I see,
Staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection
Someone I don't know?"

Pausing, she skips ahead to th' last line:

"When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?"

And now turning, she moves slowly after her mother.
