Subject: Thinking of adopting - questions/concerns

I came across a powder-puff crested at the local humane society. She is four years old and was an owner surrender. She seems to have a real sweet personality, but some of the comments made by the staff concerned me. They mentioned that she is possibly "dog aggressive" and definitely cat aggressive. They observed her fence fighting in the yard one day. I was very surprised because she didn't seem aggressive at all with me or my 3 year old. She was highly excitable and gave lots of kisses. She did bark at the big dogs while we were outside, but that was the extent of it. The dog aggression is obviously a concern because I have children and I wouldn't want her to turn on them some day. How hard is this to correct if she truly is aggressive. They also stated that her previous owner said she is housebroken but that she isn't showing signs of that at the shelter. Was the previous owner dishonest or could she possibly be reacting this way because of the enviromnent? I don't mind working with her if she needs help, but how hard is it to housebreak a 4-year old dog (I have only had experience with housebreaking a puppy). She seems so very sweet and I hate to leave her in that awful place, but I really have a lot of mixed emotions right now. Any help of advice you can give would be appreciated.
