A local no-kill shelter is in the process of rescuing 70 Cresteds and Chihuahuas from a breeder who fell too ill to care for her dogs. They escaped their pens and started breeding indiscriminantly.

I am adopting one of the 1.5 yr old male cresteds. He is un-cut but will be neutered tomorrow. He is a GORGEOUS hairy hairless.

However, I am very concerned about who he will be once he comes home. He was only at the shelter for a few days before I adopted him, but he was absolutely terrified when I visited with him.

I am worried about whether or not he has been adequately socialized. I am concerned about whether or not he will spray even after he has been neutered. I am worried about whther or not he will remain skittish all his life.

Does anyone have suggestions about how to make my home as safe and warm as possible for this little man before I bring him home? I have a Cornish Rex cat who is very shy and mostly stays curled under the covers. I doubt she will bother Merlin (the name we picked for him).

I don't have any pertinent information about type of food, bedding, skin care, etc that he has had in the past. I am babbling now, so I will stop and say thanks in advance.
