Hi, Max,

Well, the voltage itself (3V) doesn't mean the battery is _not_ dead, because as I said it usually shows unloaded voltage, but if it shows lower voltage or it drops -- it is dead. So the battery may not be able to hold the load, though not being completely exhausted -- for the machine that means batt. is dead.

Unless you had such shutdown problem, or anything related, before, I would really suspect CMOS battery. At least I have such impression from the other users experiences. At one point this forum was full of similar symptomps. You may check (if didn't yet) FAQ: boot problems at transmondesos.net -- those were typical symptoms ( everything was ok before>>once it started loosing minutes>>now I cannot boot the machine), most of them were related to dead CMOS, and most users reported that replacing CMOS batt. cleared things up. The only tough part was to locate and then replace the batt. for a particular model/type, because in most cases you face soldered batt., while Vibrant XL I believe had a nested batt. , so it's easily replaceable. I'm not sure if it's possible, but you may find on Net a batt. nest, so when you going to remove the battery you could solder this nest in place, so future (?) replacements will be less painful. I used to have link to a kind of CMOS batt replacement vendor, but don't have it ready. I'll try to find the link.

If you know any additional symptoms of pre-conditions -- please specify, so your patient may escape surgery :)
