hello again, i checked the cmos battery with my volt meter and it reads 2.96 volts. i have know idea what the normal reading would be because i can't read it off the battery. the first symptoms of my problem started before y2k and i don't think it's my ac adaptor because the geen light always come on for a few seconds then goes off. the battery's can still be charged. the unit does the same thing either with ac or under battery power. so i can't get it to boot at all. the green light on the power button comes on the hard drive spins a second then then the whole thing shuts down and the green power light goes off ..... i have even been concidering replacing the hard drive but don't want to put any more into this unless i have a good idea what is wrong....it does seem to be a power problem because the first few times it happened it was when using the floppy and cd rom.....then it started not booting every time so i would try a few times and it would boot...... now nothing .....hmmmm what to do? ........sure wish i could afford a new one.... i will post the instructions on how to take a vibrant apart when i get a chance. but the main thing i found out was that you have to remove the entire screen to get the upper case off. to do that you must remove the 4 tiny rubber pads on the face of the screen and the remove the screws under them. once that is done their are 2 screws holding the hinge to the screen.
once those come out the screen comes right off and you can remove the case........ thanks again ....Max
