Hi Mario!

It's hard to judge what exactly causes the problem. But if you suspect that sound card is the culprit, than try to reinstall the driver. I'm not sure how you 'disable' sound card since it's plug-n-play so Windows would recognize it anyway, unles you turn it off in BIOS. Anyways, in ControlPanel_System_DeviceManager delete (Del) all of the device under Sound, video, and game controllers. And then reboot your machine. Windows would reinstall the _existing_ sound drivers -- see if the problem clears then.

If not --- then check out IRQ sharing ( ...DeviceManager double click on Computer: ESS Device manager takes IRQ 5 which is also shared with PCI Steering this sould match the IRQ set in BIOS.

You may also try to update the sound driver -- there's 'new' version v293 on ESS site, or you can check also it on http://computriots.tripod.com/download.htm . Make sure you run setup of your old sound driver (from Setup-CD) and then choose Remove DriverFiles in the dialog it pops up. After that install new driver ( you can actually try to re-install the old one, who knows it might work too), and reboot.

Hope it helps, at least if you say that there's no prob;ems with sound under Linux, then sound card is OK, but the Win-Drivers, or setting are screwed somehow.

AB
