I used to be able to, because I knew what I wanted to read, and unless it was a vignette, I didn't go for the pairs and characters that didn't interest me.
Ever since I became mod though, I have totally lost ability to keep up. I just sit back and let it all stockpile for a rainy day.
My favourite authors though, mostly have update lists. So the second they reach my inbox, I save their latest, and read it at leasure. The one's who don't have update lists, I used to go regulary to their sites and check in on them, but again, I have lost that time.
grumble.
I hate this list.
whine.

First of all, I have no life at all. But also, I'm very choosy. I will only read fics that appeal to me, and if I start a fic and don't like it, I won't finish it. It's easier if you know exactly what you like and don't read anything else. That's really not possible for most people, so my final conclusion is that it's much easier if you don't have a life.
