Date Posted: 18:32:46 06/17/02 Mon In reply to: Jon 's message, "Barrel racing on Montana" on 18:31:24 06/17/02 Mon Cassidy agreed to meet him at the stables. She changed into riding clothes and hurried over. Jon waved when he saw her. Cassidy grinned and was about to jog over when Melanie ran over to her and stopped her. Jon saw Melanie say something quietly to her sister and then saw Cassidy raise her eye brows and purse her lips. She waved her younger sister off, tossed her head, and breezed past Jon to get Gent. "Hey, Cass, I was thinking we could ride to the la-" "Whatever, that's fine!" Cassidy called, leading a glossy black horse up to the barn. She quickly groomed the Tennesee Walker and coated him with a thick layer of fly spray. She slipped the bridle & saddle on, put on her helmet, and led the big stallion outside. Gent stood calmly as Cassidy mounted him. She grinned in surprise when she saw Jon walk over on a gorgeous palomino Tennesee Walker. "Look at you," she laughed. "C'mon." Cassidy squeezed and Gent broke into a comfortable rack. The wide, shady trail twisted through the trees. They rode side by side in peaceful silence. Then suddenly Cassidy said, "So...Melanie has just informed me that you seem to have a 2nd love interest." "Huh?" Jon was puzzled. "What are you talking about?" Cassidy rolled her eyes at her boyfriend. "Don't be stupid. Mia." "Mia? She's just a friend Cassidy!" Jon replied. Cassidy shot back, "She has more in common with you than I do. She rides western, I ride saddleseat-" "I'm riding saddleseat right now aren't I?" Jon replied mildly. Cassidy glared at him. Jon sighed. "She's 19 Cassidy!" he said in exasperation. Jon halted King and Cassidy pulled Gent to a stop beside him, her face doubtful. "Don't you trust me?" Jon added quietly. Cassidy looked down. "Yes. Yeah-I'm sorry Jon," she whispered. "I mean, I've got tons of friends that are guys, so I shouldn't get upset if you have friends that are girls. Ok?" Jon smiled and leaned out of the saddle to give her a kiss. "Now," he said with a grin. "First one to the lake wins!" Cassidy dug her heels into Gent's sides and the 16.2h stallion erupted into a canter, than a smooth, ground covering gallop. He galloped steadily over the grass, not as fast and flashy as Cassidy's Arabian, Pride. Jon & King drew up beside them and the 2 Tennessee Walkers pounded across the pasture, stride & stride. As the sparkling lake drew closer, Gent burst ahead into the lead. The horses splashed into the shallow, clear water and it was Gent by half a lead. "Good race!" Jon said breathlessly as he pulled the gelding up. The horses splashed in the water, having fun and their riders talked & laughed. Afterwards, they turned their wet mounts around and walked back to the barn. After the horses had been taken care of and put up, they sat outside on haybales cleaning their tack. "I am so excited about tomorrow," Cassidy grinned. "I'll finally be 15! What movie should we go see? Spiderman? Oceans 11? Star Wars Episode 2?" Cassidy grinned in eager anticipation.
