Subject: Heirarchy!

I was wondering... How will this project be "governed"?

As a veteran of projects that went to the dumps due to miscommunication and iron fists, I have a suggestion as to how this project might run itself...

First off, it'll be more of a team effort than the usual "I'm the boss, do as I say no matter what" effort (trust me, it doesn't work)... It would be split into groups of five "task" forces, which I'll list in a moment, who will have separate jobs to complete. Each task force will have what could be best described as a leader, and will assign various tasks to others of the group, as well as keep track of the other groups and their progress... I plan to make a flow chart of how this system'd work if I ever get the chance... Anywho, onto the groups:

PROGRAMMERS: The skeleton and chewy caramel center of the entire project. Without the code, there is no game.At the least there should be at least three programmers fluent in the same programming language to take on the myriad tasks that will come their way. The "main" programmer (the one that does the most work) will be the leader of this group. Programming is the number one priority.

GRAPHICS DESIGNERS: The skin and rich chocolate coating of the entire project. Without graphics, there is really no point in doing the project as we'd have accomplished making a MUD. There should be at least five subcategories(avatars, maps, items, layout, website), each of which should be manned by at least one artist of at least average talent. The leader of the group should be decided on both artistic talent and skill using the graphics programs (usually the leader of this group would work solely on the avatars). Graphics are second priority.

RESEARCHERS: The folks that will make sure we don't break anyone's copyrights. Also, the folks that will look into and flesh out the history of the game, as well as search for possible example codes for programmers. Researchers should be a team of three, and this group will not have a leader, but will answer to anyone needing assistance.

SOUNDMAKERS: I don't know much about how this group would run, but I know we'll need it eventually.\

FINANCE: The peoples making us connections to possible sponsors, getting us a server, etc... I recommend at least two financial folk.

TESTERS: Ye mighty testers. This will be a broad group, and should be made up of those with low-quality computers, to the state-of-the-art comps running about. Also, we would need to have a computer for each version of Windows, a possible Mac-user, perhaps some Linux, etc... This group will not be formed until substantial progress has been made.

Each of the groups answers to the other groups in a certain way (Programmers tell the graphics folk their limitations, graphics folk give programmers the graphics to use to test things, researchers help out everywhere when given input, testers report bugs when given a version of the game, etc...)
