Welcome to the board Gen, I have had Rotties for over 20 years before I got my first boerboel my aunt use to raise them so I have been around the rott all my life. I will say I LOVE my Rottie and really miss not having one. But I LOVE LOVE my boerboel as well and will always have one or two in my home. I think David hit it on the head about the rottie compaired to the boerboels. But I will say though that I have had a couple of real tuff rotts that would give most boerboels a run for their money. I got my first boerboel 4 years ago and got my female last year. Both of my boerboels are tuff dogs we live on a farm and they hold up with anything we do with them. They are great with the family, and will protect us to the death. Very smart & athletic, I think they drool more than a rottie but not much. I like the coat better as its shorter than a rott and they dry soooo fast. lol lol And for us that is a plus as my mutts are always in the mud and get hosed off often they all live in the house, so drying faster is a plus for me. They are different but the same in may ways, If you had a rottie and got a boerboel you'll fall in love with the breed. I also agree with David that the Rottie has less health issues than a boerboel. I have been luckly, both of mine are healthy and have great nerves. I have seen and talked to others who have not been so lucky. Just do your research and try to go see one in person. talk to as many people as you can. Good luck and keep us posted if and when you do get a boerboel.
