Hi -

I have owned 4 Boerboels and 1 Rottie over the past 10yrs....

1st intact Boerboel male - purchased at 9wks from South Africa -lots of obedience training (very food focused during puppy stage, then positive reinforcement 1yr and over), obtained CGC from AKC, he was confident, overly socialized people/dog friendly, did personal protection training starting around 10months...low prey drive, low fight drive, med defense drive. I could turn him on and off easily. He was goofy yet serious...he hated bananas but loved wearing hair clips! He was an amazing dog and his memories still live on. He was 27inches at shoulders and 135lbs. Put down at 6 due to cancer.

1st spayed Boerboel female - purchased at 7 wks from South Africa, very fiesty/dominant, high prey drive, med fight drive, med defense drive, people friendly but dog aggressive, she was our junk yard dog per se. She was short, stocky, and built like a brickhouse. Put her down due to Bone Cancer at 7 (after two TPLOs and hysterectomy) Total Cost over her lifetime was easily over $13,000.

Wish I could have them both back :(

1st spayed Rottie female - purchased at 6wks old from a backyard breeder, quirky yet VERY headstrong personality...her goal in life was to be top dog! Extremely smart but it was always a battle. She was amazing with kids.....Lassie in a sense. Very dog aggressive except with puppies....basically raised our first female BB until around 10months and then shit hit the fan. Put down at 12 due to severe hip dysplasia

2nd female Boerboel - a NIGHTMARE, a beautiful dog with great bone structure but she was dumb, dirty, destructive, and an escape artist. Ended up selling her....she had two litters...the first litter she killed all the pups, second litter was all females. I believe she had genetic issues...and her breeder isnolonger in business.

3rd neutered male Boerboel - currently 16months old, people/dog friendly (will update after maturity ;), somewhat obedient (2 levels of OB training but current adolescent stage is difficult),slow maturing, challenging, extremely big/strong, plays very rough, VERY confident and trying to vi for supremacy, would not recommend for a first time owner, would not recommend for a weak owner.....BUT he is healthy, loyal, smart, fun, lovable, extremely good looking. Ok guarding instincts (but he is still very young) med prey drive, med fight drive, low defense drive.

Well gotta run. Good luck
