Gennifer,

I have found the 2 breeds to be very similar in temperament but find the Boerboel to be more focused and willing to please. That's not to say my Rott didn't have that, but I have found more of it in the Boerboel in general. The atributes I like in Rotts I find more of in the Boerboel. About the only negative I can think of is I have found the Boel to be more stubborn at times. They take a little longer to mature too.
My Boerboel has a more consistant outlook and might even be described as sharp; especially in her younger days. She is 8 now and still going quite well. She is wonderful with children and family. I had small kids when I got her and have grandkids now, so a steady temperament was paramount to me and still is. She has never disappointed me.
I also believe the Boerboel to be the better athlete as well. We have always been fortunate in the regard of health issues with both breeds but I believe the Boerboel to be harder and more capable to assume a wider variety of roles. I realize that is saying a lot,and don't wish to offend the Rottweiler folks but my experiences bear out that opinion.
I think that with a little effort you'll be able to find a fine example that meets your needs and more than favorably compares. I wish you the best.
