Sara said, "But if not, the majority of ranchers I know use the trailer to get to the gathering spot because it'd take a day just to get there on horseback."

I will admit I have never been on a cattle drive, but what kind of slow horses are we talking about here? Having competed in endurance and competitive trail rides, a horse should be able to comfortably travel 5 - 8 mph at the lowest level. Are you saying that these properties are 50 - 100 miles apart if it takes all day to get there by horseback? According to the charts from the endurance horse association, a 5 - 8 miles trek should only take about 1 hour by horseback to get there.

Here are the mph as described by an Endurance Horse association:

1. Pleasure Rides (PR’s) or Hacking out Riding
10-20 miles, 5mph - 8mph

2. Non-Competitive Trail Rides (NCTR’s): 21-27 miles,
5mph - 8mph

3. Competitive Trail Rides (CTRs):
specified speed range
Novice: 20-25 miles 6-7mph
Junior: 20-45 miles 6-8mph
Open/YR: 25-60 miles 7-12 mph

4. Progressive Trail Rides (PTR’s)
Distance 25-60 miles
Speed 7-12 mph
