Subject: Pistaccio nut time

I knew something was up with me when I poured my orange juice instead of milk into my cereal this morning.

I've been reading about the reaction to Columbia. Its true. We gasped, said "Oh my God", and went back to what ever we were doing. Not really bad, but different. We have become conditioned to horrible things. And we're expecting more, and more horrible, things. Losing seven of our best? Huh, that was nothin'.

Remember how we reacted to JFK, RFK, Martin Luther King, Challenger, Oklahoma City, Flight 800, September 11? We were sucker-punched, dazed, knocked for a loop. We paused. We took time to heal. We were soft.

Well, those days are gone. We're all growed up now, and nothing shocks us anymore. We shake it off, bounce right back, don't miss a step. We can't be hurt.

Isn't that great?

BD, a rock and an island.
