Subject: wood roof joist and rafters

I am building a 20x30 shed with a sed style roof. the pitch is low at 2/12.I am using tin roofing. The front wall is 11' and th back wall is 7'6".now my questio concerns the joist and rafters. the joist I was going to run across my top plate and th rafters from the top of the walls. is there any procautions or concerns I should worry about?

I want to make sure I understand this right. You have two walls built on this 20x30 building and on one side the wall stands 11' tall and on the other it stands 7'6" tall and I suppose these walls are 20' apart thus creating the 2/12 pitch.

Take into consideration that 20' is an awfully long way to free span that weight. If a 2x4 was to try to span that distance all by it self it would sag under its own weight over time. I have always built thing pretty stout myself when I build things so I would probably span that great of a distance with 2x12s (no less then 2x10s) on 16" centers. I would also probably knock a 2" bird mouth out of the 2x12s where they set on the walls.
