Subject: Miss America

Hasn't anyone noticed that Stephanie's career goal and the reigning Miss America are the same. Sending her to Miss America would not be smart. How would she differentiate herself from Betty? She wouldn't! They wouldn't crown another Miss America 2 years in a row that both want to sing on Broadway. Just don't see that happening. They would want someone with other career goals to make the pageant seem more diverse with girls that have all different types of aspirations in life. Stephanie would have made a great Miss MD, but we want the Miss America crown brought back to our state. Hence Hannah's win which was well deserved in her own right. Ultimately, because of Betty's win last year Stephanie couldn't be our winner this year.

Yes I think the judges knew exactly what Stephanie's career goals where. Of course they knew! They are not new to the Miss America System. Why send a girl to Miss A that has the same exact career goal as the current Miss A.? Of coarse Hannah could give any Miss of any state a run for their money! So they gave Hannah the crown and she deserved it because she has every aspect of the competition going for her! She deserved it just as much as Stephanie however, she didn't have the same career goals as the current Miss America!

Her platform is impressive but it looks like everything she does is done for media attention and image building. If this is the case, judges will see through it.

So glad somebody also noticed the past several years the State pageant has moved more towards men judges. Good or bad, this is not representative of the gender/contestants on the stage, Miss and Teen. I'm not sure that any other State level pageant has 4 of 5 men judges as we had this year, and a majority of men several of the past years. Maybe it's time to re-evaluate the way our State pageant judges coordinator selects judges, keeping in mind we have women on the stage not men.

Exactly! Besides female judges are more likely to have a preconceived notion about what is the best hair style and makeup. They would subconsciously expect their favorites to mimic their taste and style. Or they would go for a pageant - patty vs someone original. Males are more likely to look at overall presentation and beauty. They focus on impression vs picking " their own kind", like many women judges do.

We need to bring back having majority of women judges that have judged or participated in the Miss America system. They would most assuredly pick very competitive standouts for Miss and Teen of MOA caliber.

If there were more women judges, wonder if the outcome would've been different? Past several years men have been the majority on the Judging panel. Is this the norm in other states?

but let's be realistic - her inferior education, average talent and her young age will play against her at MA. ( I am not saying that younger girls are less impressive). Three years from now she would have made a real contender for the MA crown. Now I'd say top 10 is more likely, plus quality of life and maybe swim suit prelim. But miracles happen...

Don't single only Maryland fans out, look at the other States Voy Boards. Many other states complain, too. If the judging was fair, no one would would be complaining! All we want is to bring home a Miss America crown for our Miss and Teen titles.
