Some of the "vets" who compete year after year just aren't that pretty. Girls like Pokey, Lewis, Gallagher...even some of the teen's aren't that stunning facially. Why would we not want a pretty girl on t.v. to rep MD? Pageants aren't for everyone and in the end are about beauty. All the girls are kind and accomplished but some have that "look"

I am going to have to disagree with you on that one. All of the people you just mentioned are all gorgeous and accomplished young women who have worked tirelessly for their achievements. I have encountered each of them personally and all of them are delightful young women. Yes being beautiful is a component to pageantry, however there is a lot more that goes into winning a pageant than just your physical attributes.

More does not go into it than physical beauty. If you were at the pageant all four nigjts you saw that Kathleen (our new miss maryland) was probably the least impressive outside of her beauty. Some girls are just so stunning that it overrides everything else. It's not surprising because she was leaps and bounds above the other contestants lookswise

Standards and requirements are changing. I doubt that Susan would have won state these days. But majority of people could care less about crowns, titles and other pageant fuss. Women, who compete in pageants, become subjects of ridicule, unless they stay in Hagerstown forever. Wake up and be realistic!

I have been a MD pageant fan for many years. The past few years there are girls who look very uncomfortable being on stage. It seems almost like they are competing to make their families happy. It's really heartbreaking to see this happening!
