>>Shane,
I can understand what you are saying but a forked horn rule I think has a little bit more than antler growth. The deer are more mature, smarter, wise and harder to hunt as there age will progress. This making it more of a challange to hunters. Hunting a mature buck over a 1 year old spike is a much greater challange. But I do agree with you about the older spikes??? But that dose not mean that the genetics are bad. if a older (3yr old spike) will breed with a doe this dose not mean that all the fawn bucks will be spikes there whole life. I am a meat hunter also but deer management can help the herd. I think the 5 inch spike rule has given us some better management in some WMA. and a forked horn rule may make it that much better. Yes I agree more doe permits should be given out every year harvesting does is a big part of deer management.
