Hey Guys,

For those who don't know, I am in Whistler right now. Hanging out, climbing, having fun. My first week in Whistler I even had company from Manny and Christy. They stayed for the night on their way through to Prince Rupert. One question though Manny - How can you possibly miss a one thousand foot cliff in broad daylight when driving right past it? Him and Christy both managed to drive through Squamish but miss the Chief, Canada' most popular big wall.

Via email I've also been trying to sort out the fall in terms of housing and school. It looks like Manny and I will be living together in an Albert street townhouse. Should be fun. Also, I am feeling very fortunate about funding this fall. Eric (my supervisor) has said that he has worked out funding for me for the first few terms (awesome), plus I will be TAing a first year programming course this fall. The course is perfect, since I consider myself to be fairly competent in programming and so I shouldn't have to spend a lot of time relearning the material.

For all the climbing cats:
I've spent some time climbing up and down the sea to sky highway. Some trad in Squamish, and some bouldering in Pemberton, and some sport all over.

I tried an easy 5.7 trad climb in Squamish last weekend. It was a perfectly straight finger crack up a slab. I even ran it out about 15 to 20 feet at a time. I also did some seconding behind Robb on tougher slab and crack climbs. You would not believe how small the holds are wall. Half the time you couldn't even see the hold if it wasn't for the chalk. On slab, I found out, the key is to take very small steps even if there are no foot holds - your feet will stick anyway.

Also, I've Onsighted 5.11a on lead, redpointed 5.11b on lead, and redpointed a 5.11c on TR. There are a whole bunch more climbs in the 11 range that I plan on doing before returning to Ontario in two weeks. You guys better watch out because Tiny Bubbles (5.11a) is going to fall when I get back.

Hope that everybody is having a good time in their choosen pursuits.

Wes
