Chapter 18: Reconsiderations
Star: “Oh! Terina! Stevie!” Her boyfriend had just arrived and she wanted Terina and Stevie to meet him.
Star introduced: “This is Jamal”
Stevie and Jamal started talking and Terina gave Star an approving look. Terina mouthed to Star: “He’s cute...” and Star blushed.
All of a sudden, Nelly and the other four guys appeared at the front of the room and they all took a microphone.
Jarell: “We’d like to thank everyone for attending this gala”
Talib added: “Especially our girlfriends for organizing this huge event,” subconsciously looking over at Terina before smiling at Meg. Terina’s heart skipped a beat and she hoped no one else had noticed. Unfortunately, Meg had noticed but she gritted her teeth and let it go. For now.
Liz smiled at the sight of her boyfriend singing her favourite song. The guys finished singing and everyone applauded.
Jiz: “Just a second,” people started disbanding from the stage area to dance some more. They stopped and turned back to the front. The other guys looked at him, wondering what he was doing.
Jiz: “As everyone knows, I have been dating Liz for a long time now and having to go away on tour again has made me realize that I don’t want to
be away from her and live without her. With all that said, Liz,” he turned to look at his girlfriend.
Jiz: “Will you marry me?” Liz gasped and ran over to Jiz She kissed him as tears streamed down her face.
Jiz repeated, laughing nervously: “...will you...?”
Liz cried: “Yes! Of course!” The guests applauded and cheered while the guys congratulated the newly engaged couple.
Terina sighed and thought of how lucky Liz was. She wanted that kind of love, that amazing feeling when you saw them. She was happy being with Stevie but only one person had given her that feeling. She looked at Talib and Meg. Was he really perfectly happy with Meg? Terina couldn’t help but wonder how everything would be if her and Talib had agreed on the alternative choice. It might have been her that he was thanking on stage. It might have been her that he would propose his live to the next time. And yet she felt torn. She loved Stevie as well. He was sweet, charming, good looking and, most of all, they didn’t have to hide their relationship. She looked over at Talib’s direction and realized he was looking at her, with the same look in his eyes. A look of longing and passion, wants and needs.
Talib caught Terina’s gaze and he could see that she was having the same feelings of desire mixed with regret as he was. He sighed as his mind argued with his heart. His mind told him Meg. His heart cried out for Terina. Talib was potted from his thoughts when he noticed Terina head to the restrooms. He excused himself from Meg and dashed off after her.
Talib called out to her: “Terina!”
Terina turned around, startled: “Talib! I... I was just going to fix my makeup,” she lamely lied.
Talib raised an eyebrow, not believing her: “Uh huh.”
Terina cracking a smile: “What?, I am!”
Talib suddenly turned serious
Talib whispered: “Then, wait until after... I do... this,” he pulled her in for a kiss. One that he had been waiting to give her for two long months.
