Subject: The Rebublican plan to destroy Medicare

It started with the Drug Prescription Plan and that was just the beginning. http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/354/22/2314

How many remember the strong arm tactics used by DeLay and a vote held open until it succeeded? Don't ever think DPP pays the total cost of a script. That merely gives you a discount! You think the pharmas are losing money? You're not very savvy. They upped the price of drugs most seniors use by 30-35% three months before the DPP was passed. Think they might have known seomthing?

David Walker, former US controller has spoken out against this and directly called it one of the many unfunded "gifts" courtesy of the Bush administration. Was anybody listening?

That was followed by attempts to privatize SS. That didn't go over well but the next plan was Medicare Advantage and succeeded in getting it passed. Those are plans being run by insurance companies

You don’t need a Medigap policy. These plans include:

Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO),
Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO)
Private Fee-for-Service Plans
Medicare Special Needs Plans
Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans (MSA)

However!!!! The private plans stipulate what doctor/specialist you can use..Gee, isn't that what insurance companies are saying a public plan will do? You can still legally keep a medigap plan but you can't use it for out of pocket charges. The reason? Because medigap insurance will only pay Medicare approved charges. And insurance companies do what insurance companies do best--they stand between you and your doctor!
