I do not think that traditional sex roles contribute positively to developing a truly free personality because those roles reinforce that females are below males. This can allow a female to be oppressed emotionally or physically, which would be quite the opposite of free. These traditional roles can also be harmful to males who want to freely express more of a feminine side. Also, removing these traditional roles gives a person more freedom to develop their own unique characteristics and truly find their own talents, whether they are feminine or masculine. Traditional sex roles can trap a person into becoming what they "should be" instead of who they really are or who they truly wish to be.

I think that a persons personality comes from the mixture of outside enviroment and internal feelings towards things. I think in this aspect that traditonal sex roles are not positive. It is important to be able to think for ones self and not have society put pressures on a person to feel another way. I think gender roles are influenced by your living style because you have the choice to live however you want. As an adult you are allowed to make your own decisions of life. I feel that gender roles inhibit a person to express their true personality. Society has put guidelines on how men and women are to act. For a man to conform to a womans role is absolutely unaccepted in todays world (and vice versa). Women are also seen as inferior in the workforce which can inhibit them from showing their true personality. Overall, I feel true personality cannot be seen because of gender roles.

In most cases I do agree that traditional sex roles contribute positively to the development of a truly free personality because our society is more liberal today than 15-20 years ago. However, there are still some societies that still live in the past by not allowing women to leave the home to further their education or become a productive member of the workforce. As far as truly free personality in most cases it is excepted, for example male to male relationships and female to female relationships. However, in other societies it is not excepted due to religion and political beliefs.

Free personality can be defined as an individual who has been raised with no gender bias. Is this totally a good thing? I'm not so sure. I would not be very attracted to a male who behaved like most women. I believe most women are not attracted to feminine males. While some attributes from the opposite gender are nice, not all are. When it comes to job performance and wages there definitely is unfair bias. Food for thought: if by chance from the beginning of time we had a society that had been free from gender personality, right now we would probably have a different question for this assignment- would it be better to have more seperate gender roles and how would it be better?

I think that I am in stage 3 of moral development right now in my life. I base most of the things that I do on if it is pleasing to other people in my life that I care about. For example, I want to make good grades to be pleasing to my family- parents, grandparents, husband. I highly value trust and loyalty in relationships. I feel that the person should come first before laws, in most cases. From the example in class, I would agree with the man that broke in to the pharmacy to get medicine for his child because he did not have enough money.

I think at this point in my life that I fall in Level II, Stage 3. Reason being is because Im constantly making decisions based on not letting important people down in my life. Such as school, I don't want to let my parents and other family member down so I try my best to get good grades. I try not to let my friends down and be there for them when they need, because thats what true friends are for. Another thing is on my job. I work hard to show my boss Im a great worker. Sometimes I even get scared of making decisions because I might let someone that really cares for me down.

In the sensorimotor stage I would introduce a noise making toy such as a rattle which would cause the child to use their senses (seeing, hearing, and touching) and motor skills. In the prepoperational stage I would have a child read a book that deals with classifications such as different colors or animals. In the concrete operational stage I would show them flashcards of simple math problems and have them give the answers. For the formal operational stage I would present the child with problems and ask them how they would fix and solve the problem.

At the first stage of development or sensorimotor I would help them by letting them touch and observe new and interesting things. The second stage or Pre-operational I would possibly present old things to them in new ways so their understanding of things changing would develop. In the third stage or concrete operational I would encourage a student to find new things and different ways to use already familiar things. Finally in the Formal operational stage I would let them figure out answers on their own and even create a problem and be able to fix it.

I think eating disorders is a very important topic that should be covered in class. Retrieving information about a condition and disease that causes bodily harm is a mandatory need. It is so many people that have eating disorders that become terribly ill because no one noticed the side affects or were not informed of the symptoms. I have never had an eating disorder or known anyone who has contracted the disease, but because i was informed of the issue in class I can maybe help someone in the future!

Especially in our society today looks matter, too much. Especially women are willing to do many things to look "good" and to be "skinny", they are willing to go so far as to hurt themselves. It is important to teach the dangers of eating disorders and showing that being skinny is not worth killing yourself over.

I believe covering the topic of eating disorders in class is very important. Eating disorders have become very common in our culture today and I think being aware and understanding these diseases could possible help the individuals affected by this disease. As teachers I think it is important to be able to recognize the signs and symptoms. Teachers play a huge part in the success of children, not just academically, but also physically and emotionally. Teachers sometimes spend more time with their students than the students spend with their own parents and these diseases are sometimes hard to detect especially if the parent is never there to know what is going on with their kid then who will? On of my best friends had a eating disorder. This disease nearly destroyed her life. I wish I detected it way before I did, but it is extrememly hard. That is why I think everyone, especially teachers should be aware of theses diseases so that we can help.

The only things I know about it are that 8 out of 10 times it for attention and that it is about 90% mental and 10% physical.

Learning about them will also help you better recognize and treat the problem. This class is teaching us various aspects of growth and development and I believe even controversial topics such as eating disorders should be included. One of my best friends is a ballerina and has struggled with eating disorders for a large part of her life. The constant demand for girls to be thin in the dance world plays a big role in why she has a problem. She has gotten a lot better but still goes to see a therapist once a week.

I think that going over eating disorders is extremely important to cover in class! One of my dearest and closet friend had an eating disorder a couple of years ago. I had no idea at first, but eventually caught her throwing up. It is so crazy how sometimes we are quick to judge people who are very thin girls and are obviously anorexic, but yet you probably could not even tell by looking at a girl if she is bulimic or not. Let me tell you that it is very hard to detect because my friend was at a normal weight, and would always eat around me, but I had no idea. My advice to anyone would be to accept that there are no quick easy solutions for recovery from an eating disorder. If your loved one is to get lasting recovery, she needs to make changes in her attitude and behaviors, and these changes take time. You cannot make them for her. However, you, family, and friends need to make changes to accomadate her growth. Intervention may be one of the most difficult things you do within the course of a relationship. Do not expect that your loved one will be open, cooperative, nor grateful to your intervention. Gratitude sometimes comes later.

Everywhere you turn the focus is on good looks, and looking good depends on if you are thin. Thin is defined among what we find on TV and in magazines, and what most people are trying to emulate. I think it is a very important issue to confront because in my personal experience it starts very young. My daughter is not one of the very skinny teenagers; she is not overweight but she isn’t skinny. Some call her fat and this makes her very self-conscious. For years she has had times when I would find that she was not eating or was throwing up what she ate. I assume that this will be a battle that we will fight for many years. So far this has not been a pattern that has lasted for more than a few days because I always find out. The message of what harm this can do to your body/mind cannot be stressed enough.

I think bonding is necessary not only for the child but for the parent. Bonding builds a relationship for the baby as soon as they are born and I think this is not only comforting but a key aspect in their lives. I think the best example of bonding is the touch-cheek reaction by babies. They want food and they get it from their mothers whom they are bonded to. In adoption I think that bonding can still occur although it amy not be immediate over time it will happen and the same feelings can be shared by the adopted child and parent.

I think bonding is completely vital to human devemopment. My opinion has become more clear in this area because of two examples dicussed in class. The first point dealt with babies adopted at a young age. Such babies are not able to bond instantly with their parents yet many of these relationships turn out great and do not show side effects that occur with late/litle bonding. The way that babies grab for their nurterer shows the importance for them to begin bonding right away. So I say, the sooner the better and bonding is 100% necessary.

I feel that the earlier the bonding with the mother begins, the better. I also think that bond or no bond the mother and the child share a natural connection that does not depend on bonding. This natural bond is what makes early bonding so effective due to the natural relationship they share and a sence of comfort the baby has in the arms of the person he/she naturaly belongs in.

In my opinion, early bonding is vital. I think that babies bond with their mothers the entire nine months that they are in the womb and to feel comfort, they need to keep that closeness to the mother. Very often, adopted children never feel like they are a part of their adopted family because the early bonding was not there. I think that babies need to be nurtured by the mother as soon as possible after birth so the bonding can occur. I feel that children that do not ever bond with their mothers have emotional problems and never really feel like they are a part of a family.

I do feel that it is vital for mothers and their infants to start bonding as soon as possible. I feel that it is equally important for the baby to hear the fathers voice as well. A positive environment is necessary for the child to have positive growth and development. One of my friends has a baby who has been raised in a negative environment. At not even a year old, he has learned from the parents that the reaction to dropping something is "uh-oh, sh*t". This just goes to show how important it is to implement positive bonding from the very beginning.

I think that most mothers have a bond with their child while they are still pregnant, and some immediately after they give birth. I think that it is important for mothers and children to form a a bond immediately. If not, it may take some time, or it may never happen. My experience with the issue is that I know that my mother and I had a bond since before I could remember, and that is why we have a very strong relationship now.

I think that babies are not in need of that certian bonding persay however they do need to be taught and know in some ways that they are loved or cared for.Bonding however to me is not an immediate thing that has to happen right away, because again if this were true then the whole adoption thing would be completely a wreck for the children placed in foster homes. I believe that bonding is very important for both baby and mother. It is proven that babies in the NICU improve at a faster rate when their mothers come and visit them. This bond that forms between baby and mother is crucial for their relationship in the future. My mother understood that fact and the relationship we have now is partly a result of the bond we formed when I was an infant. My sisters and I are very close to our mother, and I believe this is because of the effort my mother made when each of us were infants.

Due to past experiences I feel that bonding should begin while the child is in the womb. Once the child is born this bond should continue. I think many begin forming a strong bond when they find out they are pregnant, however, I do not believe it is critical for a mother to form a bond immediately it may be a tough time and they were not ready for a child but will eventually form a bond within the first few months. I feel that it is important for mothers and infants to bond; however, I do not feel that it is critical for the bond to form immediately. I have an Aunt that adapted a little girl from China. The little girl was about eight months old before she came to her new parents. In this case, the mother-infant bond was not formed immediately. The child is now nine years old and has a very close relationship with her American parents. Immediate bonding may be best, but I do not think that it is absolutely necessary.

Bonding begins before birth in my opinion. Personally speaking, I formed an instant attachment when the doctor confirmed my pregnancy. I was never more excited. Viewing my children each time during an ultrasound was also very special to me. I know all women who become pregnant experience different things, but I personally enjoyed being pregnant. My children and I have very close relationships, and I work hard at keeping that bond strong.
It is also key that mothers and infants bond immediately for optimal development in my opinion. It is said that new babies especially respond to touch, and that touch is key to healthy emotions. Personally speaking, I am a mom of three and my second pregnancy was considered high risk. I recall after the birth my son, he was taken immediately to N.I.C.U., and I was unable to hold him. I was unable to rest and I asked to be taken to see him, as soon as I got there they were ready to place him on a ventilator. I believe that my uneasy feelings were telling me to get there, because after he was placed on the ventilator, I was unable to hold him for two months. Being able to hold him for those few seconds meant the world to me.

I wouldn't use corporal punishment on my kids. I do not believe hitting someone because they did wrong is the answer. Talking over the problem and solving it would help the case ten times as much. I also believe that there a big difference between a parent and a teacher spanking a child. I believe that if the parent use their discipline on a kid at an early age, a teacher would not need to use punishment on a child. Also, a parent spanking a child means a lot more because they have a love for each other that one can not have with a teacher. I believe there is no difference between a teacher and a nurse in regards to corporal punishment. I do believe there should be a difference because the nurses have much more of a different relationship than a teacher.

In my opinion i believe corporal punishment is wrong. Using violence only produces more violence in my opinion, so no i would not use this form of punishment. I think there are plenty of other ways to discipline. As for the use of it in the school system, i also disagree with it. I believe there is a major difference between parents spanking their children and teachers spanking. I believe it is the right only of the child's parents to use such form of punishment. giving a teacher the right to use violent methods of punishment only causes problems. I don't think there is a difference between teachers and nurses when it comes to corporal punishment, both I believe should not be in the situation to use the form of punishment. I do not think that corporal punishment should be used in schools. I think spanking is a job for the parents, not teachers or nurses. Spanking, within bounds, should be a decision that the parent makes. A child will respond better if he/she is spanked by a person that they have affection for (their parents). There are other ways to discipline a child in the school setting such as taking away recess time or extra homework. I am definitely against corporal punishment.

Corporal Punishment like any other punishment is not for everyone. Also, like other punishments AND rewards, the success is in the hands of the student AND the person providing the action. So, should Corporal Punishment be in school? Yes, with parental permision. But more often that not, if a student gets detention for a number of times and it doesn't work, more than likely you would give them something else like Saturday school. The same should apply to corporal punishment. So often the blame is on the student when it is the teacher that is not functioning a proper system of punishment and rewards in their classroom.

In my opinion I believe that corporal punishment should not be used in schools. I think that if parents would like to spank to discipline their children, there is nothing wrong with that (unless of course they cross the fine line between spanking and abuse.) In a school system I would never spank, and at this time in my like I'm not sure I can say whether I will or will not spank my children. I believe there is a major difference between a parent and a teacher spanking. Teachers are in schools to teach not to correct behavior problems. But I also believe that if there are behavior problems in a classroom then they should be addressed. Children are a parents responsibility. Corporal punishment is always an issue especially in inner city school systems. A lot of people feel that some parents don't do there job at home; therefore the behavior problems show in the class. At this point I believe that the teacher should notify the parents. If problems continue the teacher should notify the administration. I do not think schools are a place for corporal punishment. I think that parents should be allowed to discipline their children through spanking, within reasonable boundaries. Teachers, however, should not be allowed/should not have to discipline children through corporal punishment because their focus is teaching academics not behavioral mechanics. I feel nurses should also not take part in corporal punishment because their patients are helpless to defend themselves due to sickness. A nurses job is to assist in the healing of a patient not punish them in any way. The children/teacher relationships relates because children are not allowed to defend themselves if a situation excels the set boundaries.

Corporal Punishment is not something that I would use in my classroom. I think that corporal punishment a scare tactic that does not improve behavior. I feel that there is a large difference between parents spanking and teachers spanking. A child knows that afterwards the relationship may suffer but since it is a permanent relationship it will improve. With teachers I feel that there isn't enough time to have a strong enough relationshhip for spanking to happen. No, I do not think that there is a difference between a nurse and a teacher spanking. I do not think spanking should happen but I think if it does only can a child's relationship with a parent fully recover.

I do not agree with coporal punishment and I would not use it in a classroom, however, at home I would use it. There is a difference in parents and teachers spanking there children. A spanking could mean something different when it is coming from a different background. Students do not take teachers seriously, where as, they could be afraid of their parents. I babysit for two children whose parents spank them, and even though they have given me permission to use the "No No stick," I do not feel as though it is my place to do so. I do believe that some children benefit from a spanking, but I do not agree that it should be used as corporal punishment in schools. I would never spank a child in school and think that this form of discipline is best used at home at the discretion of the parent. I do not see how you can keep from humiliating a child if they are spanked at school. Most of the time the child that needs the discipline is not the child who makes good grades and enjoys school, it is the opposite. This form of punishment will only reinforce the poor attitude of the child towards school. I do not believe that there is or should be a difference between a teacher and nurse when it comes to spanking, and do not think that someone with a nursing background is anymore capable of administering a spanking than a teacher.

I believe that physical punishment of any kind should not be the job of any school authoritive figure, but should be the responsibility if considered necessary, by the parents. To a child there is a big difference between their mom and dad spanking them and the teacher spanking them. Children understand that their parents punish them to correct their behavior, but if the teacher does, the child thinks that just anyone does not like what they are doing can hit them. Teachers main job are to teach, and nurses are to provide care; NOT use corporal punishment. I believe that parents are the ONLY people allowed to discipline their child with spanking.

I agree with the people who think that Corporal Punishment should be banned from schools. I believe that when a child receives a spanking at school, they are less likely to stop their “bad behavior.” One reason could be that the person spanking them is not their parent. Another reason could be that this method does not work to help change a child’s behavior at school. Most of the children who get paddled are the same one’s visiting the principal’s office over and over again. I do feel that there is a difference between parents spanking their children and teachers/nurses spanking. I think that teachers should not be allowed to spank children at school because they could be doing it out of anger and really dislike the child. Also, most of the reasons that children are paddled at school is because of minor things, such as, talking, playing, etc. I think that there should be a difference between parents and teachers/nurses. Corporal Punishment should not be disciplined in schools? Why? There is an enormous difference between parent/s disciplining their children and teacher/s punishing the students. I think parents can control their temper better than some teachers because there are misbehaved children in every class which causes the teacher to go under stressful moments while teaching class. If your child was to misbehave during this stressful time that may resolve in corporal punishment, but the parent has time to calm down before disciplining her child. My opinion upon this discussion is that I feel nurses or teachers should not be allowed to use corporal punishment because only the parent can raise and train their child.

I feel that bonding is a great thing that should be done with all children. yes, I feel that all mothers should bond with their children for optimal development. I feel strongly about this because my mother bonded with me and I did so with my children. I have two children and I only had a chance to bond with my first child. bu, with my second daughter I was unable because I went right back to really was unable to bond with her right then. But now I have had the time to bond with her and we are as close as every. I really believe that if you dont bond with your child they could become emotional distrot.

Corporal punishment should only be used under extreme circumstances, and when all other methods of behavior modification have been exhausted. There is a definent difference between a parent and a teacher spanking a child. Typically we hope that when a parent disciplines a child it is warrented and out of love. When a teacher does so we can only be sure that its being used as a method to redirect the behavior if we as the parent have been involved with that teacher. Teachers are in place to teach and nurses are typically there to provide care. There are cases where a nurse may ignore a patient or use medication to sedate a bothersome patient, but for the most part a nursing and corporal punishment are unrelated.
2 examples of (+) reinforcement: "You made the honor roll, lets go get a new toy!" or "You did a great job walking away when she hit you." 2 examples of (-) reinforcement: "Why can't you get better grades like your sister?" or "You finished the race second, but first would have been better." Punishment 1: stealing: grounded for 1 month, or returning the merchandise and apologizing too the store owner. Punishment 2: breaking curfew: no company or phone for 2 weeks, or no cell phone or after school activities for 2 weeks.
