'Eminent hostility' was a polite way of saying 'downright rude and snotty', at least in Tori's line of thinking. A simple jest, a turn of phrase, and the incroaching male had to go and get a pine cone up his tooshy. Guess one had to check one's sense of humor at the door when entering Dark Evergreens. Shaking her head, the palomino silently admitted that she would never understand the Rebels ... the Rebel males at any rate.

Now Deja seemed to be a horse of a different color, to use an appropriate phrase. No outright rudeness coupled with basic manners -- perhaps Tori might have to reconsider her impression of the Rebels. A sideways glance landed on Dagger's Rebellion. Or not. Why did the more ignorant beasts believe that being a Rebel meant having no courtesy or manners. It shouldn't have been too hard for the golden to understand. Her initial impression was that Dagger was one of those brawny louts who possessed only three brain cells. Unfortunately for said lout, two of the brain cells were fighting with each other and the third was curled up in a corner sucking its thumb and crying for its mother. Ugh.

A genuine smile, tempered by fatigue, graced the pregnancy-swollen mare's lips at the appearance of Deja's crooked grin. Hey! Whaddya know! A sense of humor. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all. Honeyed tones, mildly hoarse but still pleasing to the ear, enamated from the gilded matriarch, cooly addressing Dagger.

"Twas a joke, monsieur. Lighten up."

Warmer tones issued forth for Deja. The ebony-stained mare had shown courtesy and good breeding. For that, Tori would dull the edge of her sharp tongue and behave civilly.

"Guess you know what to wish for next Christmas, no? Kidding, just kidding. So you're the welcome wagon, eh?"

Pleasant conversation... who'da thunk it. Perhaps if that cold-eyed brute would remove the pine cones, he wouldn't look so pissy. Icy glares were not an effective means of intimidation against the palomino. She had received harsher looks in her many years that would put Dagger's stare to shame.
