 I really think that it doesn't take an enormous amount of initiative to get the grooming right -- I went to one open comp before we started competing and looked at makeup, hair and costume so I knew that I needed all my hair off my neck (somehow) and, for me, serious amount of make up. I also unashamedly asked people at practices about things like tights. Okay, so Justine hated my scrunchie :) round my bun for modern, my partner wants me to apply fake tan and more make up cos it's a bit understated compared to the open amateurs but anyone can do it. Go for it!

A lot of the scaring others bit doesn't seem to happen as much on the open circuit,at least at the lower levels, but we do the baic things any uni coach will tell their couples , we always go on to the floor positively, aim for our preferred spot, try to start as soon as poss and walk off with our heads up -- in between I may, of course, have taken on a frightened rabbit look......especially in latin.....
