lucky you, nothing's free in Oxford... actually, they've not found a way of charging us for running up the hill yet!

I agree. In practice you rarely do enough continuous dancing to get fit for a competition. In a 5-dance you need to be able to do about 10 minutes of almost continous dancing without being visibly tired, so unless you dance uninterruptedly for 20+ minutes in practice, I think other training is needed...

We usually do a bit of basic Waltz at the start of practice, starting of very gently, which seems to work quite well...

I think if someone just does things like Yoga it is unlikely they'll develop sufficient fitness. Strength is one thing, but to do a 5-dance comp quite a serious amounts of aerobic and unaerobic fitness are also required!
