Unbelievable to think that you would go to India without a front line spinner.

I am no Giles fan but the last two Test matches he has not played in the batting side have tucked in to us and there have been double centurions both times.

The ball will turn square in India and I (unfortunately) cannot see a better spinning option than Giles. His batting is useful too.

Now onto your pet subject : the elevation of Shah. Forget it, if you plan to play Freddie, Pieterson and Jones I think you need Bell and Collingwood to counter the stroke players aggression - and replacing Jones with Read won't change that. I can't believe that when Jones finally comes to the party and improves his batting and keeping technique is when you finally concede it is time to jettison him.

I think one of England's biggest problems is the openers are both susceptible to the full length swinging ball (you can get away with one having that weakness but two is a problem), which they will probably get early up in India, and I think it could be time for Strauss to get a wake up call, and it would prob do Pieterson no harm to be dropped either. Nonetheless, my Test side would be :

1. Tresco
2. Vaughan
3. Bell
4. Pieterson
5. Collingwood
6. Flintoff
7. G Jones
8. Giles
9. S Jones
10. Hoggard
11. Harmison

Very important tactical points :

1. Harmison and Flintoff are bowled like strike bowlers in short bursts. Jones similarly.

2. Giles and Hoggard are the workhorses and bowl the majority of overs with support coming from Collingwood.
