 Part of me agrees with this, and part of me doesn't.

A film made at the current time may expose a new audience to Buddy's music, but the cost would be at perpetuating the myths of Buddy's life by certain individual(s).

At the risk of sounding callous, it would probably be better to wait until certain people have "shuffled off their mortal coil" before attempting to tell the story of Buddy Holly on the big screen, so that they have no influence on the narrative being told. Until that happens, there will be no accuracy in the story being told.

Another question is: Why does it have to be a movie? I'd settle for a well scripted mini-series, with a decent budget and cast. Each episode could focus on certain parts of Buddy's life, rather than trying to cram in all into an hour and a half.
