 This matter may have been addressed a number of times but I have yet to see it resolved. In 1992 I spent quite some time with Bill Griggs at his home in Lubbock. He told me that after the death of Norman Petty, his widow Vi found a number of tape reels in a box. She called MCA records and Steve Hoffman arrived to go through the tapes. He found around 20 tracks by Buddy of songs which had already been recorded but these were very much demos. As an example, some songs where in different tempo etc. These recordings were found MID TAPE together with other artists. Bill explained that Norman may not have had a NEW tape that Buddy could use so he was asked to utilise the tape already in the machine. I believe that Jackie Wilson also had some songs on the same reel(s).Hoffman apparently took these tapes back to MCA but what has actually happened to them I really don't know. Paul McCartney was made aware of the situation by Bill but nothing has come of it with regard to publication. Whether or not Maria Elena is in the mix somewhere, who knows. If anyone can throw some light on all of this it would be appreciated.
