What's your opinion?

Chuck Berry certainly had more than his share of negative personal traits, as did Jerry Lee Lewis, Gene Vincent, Elvis, etc.

Maybe it's in our human DNA to yearn for "kings" and "queens" or heroes. As much as I admire the music they made, I'm grateful I didn't have any personal or professional encounters with these artists.

Even Buddy Holly, rock 'n roll's nice guy, would have gotten on my nerves! There's a photo of him visiting the Everlys in a hotel room, and he's sitting on a bed with his foot on the bed. This is a ridiculously minor thing, but he'd been out walking around NYC and then he rests his shoe on the bed... I'm one of those germ-phobic freaks who requests visitors remove their shoes before entering my home.

I remember reading about Bobby Fuller. The people in his life admitted that Bobby was self-centered and didn't care much about anything or anyone else other than his music and his career. I would guess this description applies to anyone who makes it to the top of show business.

I try to separate the art from the artist, otherwise I'd have no one to listen to.
