Well, I guess everyone is excited to hear about our summer camp last weekend. It was very relaxing and rewarding. Let me see if I can share some of the highlights (and there is no order to this list as I am just brainstorming at this time so bear with me).
·There were approximately 30 attendees including 2 babies (Lea’s and Sharon’s) and one representative from the 1st generation CYF – Mrs. Inocencio.

·Our head chef – Manong Dante and his assistants – kept us full and happy (although we agreed to not put down what we had kasi it would make it seem too luxurious compared to our CYF camps back home – ha, ha).

·Our camp marshal – Boni Gulla – was quiet but very dependable – I have yet to get to know him better since his quietness seems so intriguing to me.

·The first night’s dinner was sponsored by Nick and Imelda Mina to celebrate Joy’s graduation from University of California Irvine with a B.S. in Chemistry and Boni and Vicki Gulla to honor Carlo’s graduation from high school.

·We elected a new set of officers who will serve a two-year term:
o Chair: Manong Nick Mina
o Secretary/Auditor: Manong Boni Gulla
o Treasurer: Manang Elsie Aldana

·We also elected a steering committee for next year’s camp, which is tentatively scheduled the last weekend in June (24-26th).
o Camp Marshall: Manong Willie Inocencio
o Worship planners: Aldwin Aldana, Lea & Sharon

·We had several camp attendees share meaningful and touching devotions including Aldwin, Manong Nick, and Melissa (eldest daughter of Nick and Imelda Mina) – and when I say meaningful I mean messages that seem to bring out the best of you and help reawaken the servant spirit that seems to be hibernating at times – ha, ha.

·We slept in 4 cabins (and we did try to spread out the snorers, but with not much luck) and met in one mess hall/kitchen where we had our group activities and eating sessions. We put all the teenagers – who we dragged to the camp in one cabin and lo and behold they bonded and got along so well they are looking forward to next year’s camp – which to us adults was one of our biggest accomplishments.

·We swam in the pool, played archery, hiked, had dance lessons, sang, roasted marshmallows at our bonfire, and had a talent show which had the oldies having so much fun and the teenagers bored to death!

·The place was generally ideal and perfect for our gathering – with an outdoor chapel and bonfire area and all the amenities to make it convenient for us – with showers and hot water and clean toilets!

·The best news – is we raised an extra $600 to add to our Dugong CYF funds which Manong Willie will be endorsing to Auntie Aie when he goes home to the Philippines in August – just from the registration fees. It was more than we anticipated, but the camp directors were very lenient with campers who only came for one day and we also got a BIG discount (20%) off each member’s registration of $51.20 per person because of TL and Wendy’s (and note these are my kids) contributions to the children’s summer camps which is sponsored by the Methodist Church that is held yearly at the site and where TL has served as a counselor for the last 3 years – sorry but I just had to brag a little (ha, ha).

·We discussed possible options of better ways we could help the projects back home which Boni will elaborate on further in a separate posting (soon I hope – ha, ha).

·The picture sessions we so much fun (again for the oldies, but not so much for our kids). Hopefully someone will put together an album for us – Lea and Bong Go also took video recordings of all our activities which hopefully we’ll get to see next year.

·Oh, yes, Auntie Aie wrote a wonderful letter which I had the privilege to read to the group on our last night. It gave us a chance to tell our kids (the next generation) about the mission of the Dugong CYF and how much we want them to carry on the mission in the future – I think they sounded like they were going to heed the challenge.

Well, I guess that’s most of it in a nutshell – I hope I didn’t leave out any important events and if I did, please feel free to add on to this posting. Again, thanks to all who came to the camp and to all that didn’t get to come we hope to see you next year – save the dates now: JUNE 24-26th, 2005!

God bless us all,
Lorraine
